Benin is a country in west Africa with more than 8 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Togo, Burkina Faso, Niger and Nigeria. To the south lies to the Bay of Benin. In the north, the vast fertile plains. Northwestern is the low Atakora mountaintop. To the south lies a narrow coastal plain with heavenly beaches, interspersed with forests. Furthermore, lagoons and marshes. Further inland is the country of the 41 hills and plains. There is a tropical climate. Northern is a more savanna-like climate. The capital, Porto Novo has 240,000 inhabitants. Places are the royal palace of King Toffa (the museum Honmè), the ethnographic museum, the major market d'Adjara and the museum da Sylva. Just outside the city piles Aguegues village. Other major cities are the largest city Cotonou, Godomey, Parakou, Bohicon, Djougou, Abomey-Calavi, Nikki and Natitingou. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO are the ruins of the former royal palaces in Abomey. Other attractions are the W and Pjendjari parks, mountain village Taneka Koko, and coastal location and voodoo capital Ouidah.
