The Democratic Republic of Congo is a country in Central Africa with about 66 ½ million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Angola, Congo, the Central African Republic, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Zambia. The former Zaire has a short coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. North-west lies the Congo basin. Furthermore, many mountains and rivers. Eastern many lakes, including Lake Tanganyika. In the republic grows the second largest rainforest in the world. Furthermore, the landscape is determined by forest and grass savanna. There is a tropical climate. It is always moist and warm. Capital Kinshasa has 7 ½ million inhabitants. Sightseeing, the Grand Marche, the tomb of former President Laurent Kabila, the Bonobo Reserve and the academy of fine arts. Other cities include Bandundu, Kindu, Matadi, Lubumbashi, Mbandaka, Kananga, Kisangani and Mbuji-Mayi. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO are Okapi wildlife and national parks Virunga, Kahuzi Biega, Salonga and Garamba. Other attractions are the Livingstone Falls, the Ituri forest and the Pygmies.
