Guinea is a country in West Africa comprising 10 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The republic has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. Guinea has a coastal plain with many rivers and many small islands. The Fouta Djalon highland lies north-west. Savanna areas are located in the central and east. In the south afforestation. There is a warm tropical climate with plenty of rain. The capital Conakry has 2 million inhabitants. It is situated on two small islands just off the coast: Kaloum and Tombo. Sights include the Grand Mosque, the Palais du Peuple, the national museum, the many markets and the botanical gardens. Other cities are Nzerekore, Boke, Faranah, Kindia, Mamou, Labe and Kanakan. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO, the Mount Nimba Nature Reserve, which also lies partly in Ivory Coast. Other attractions are the markets of Gueckekedou and Kanakan, the highest city Mali-Ville and a visit to the Fulani people.
