Malawi is a country in Southern Africa with 14 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania. The most striking is the elongated Lake Malawi. This lake is located in the central African Rift Valley and has about 300 unique fish species. The banks are very marshy. The republic consists of hills, mountains, high plains and many grasses and afforestation. There is a tropical climate. The capital Lilongwe has 650,000 inhabitants. Sightseeing will include the nature reserve along the Lingadzi River, the zoo and the old city. Just outside the city lies the tobacco auction. Other cities are Blantyre, Monkey Bay, Mzimba, Mzuzu, Nkhata Bay, Rumphi and Zomba. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO are the Lake Malawi National Park and the rocky coast of Chongoni. Other attractions are the eleven national parks and game reserves, Mount Mulanje, flora and fauna.
