Sierra Leone : Sierra Leone is a country in west Africa with 6.2 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Guinea and Liberia. The republic has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean in the west. Savanna and grassland in the north account for about one third of the country. The landscape consists primarily of forest and rainforest. East are large plateaus, interspersed with high mountains. Along the coast are lowland plains with mangrove forests, rivers, lagoons and the Banana Islands, the Turtle Islands and Sherbro. In the Freetown peninsula is a hilly area. There is a tropical monsoon climate. The capital Freetown has 1 million inhabitants. Sights include the Cotton Tree, the King's Gate, the National Railway Museum, the Fort Thornton, the big market, Lumley Beach, St George's Cathedral and the Town Foulah mosque. Other major cities are Bo, Bonthe, Freetown, Kabala, Kailahun, Kambia, Kenema, Koidu Town, Magburaka, Makeni, Moyamba, Port Loko, Pujehun and Sulima. Other attractions are the national parks, the old Creole villages, the Outamba-Kilimi, the slave fort on the island Bunce, the Loma Mountains forest reserve, the unique bird life, the Charlotte Falls waterfalls and beautiful beaches.
