Somalia is a country in east Africa with 7.2 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya. The republic is situated in the Horn of Africa and has a coastline along the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Somalia is composed of three parts: Somalia, Puntland and Somaliland. The Karkaar Mountains is located in the north. In the south and west are dry and hilly areas. The other part of Somalia consists of dry savannas. Only along the rivers Giuba (central) and the Scebeli (Southern) are fertile areas. Somalia has a long coastline with long sandy beaches and coral reefs. There is a desert climate. The capital Mogadishu has 1.2 million inhabitants. The sights are: the Garesa palace, the Fakr ad-Din mosque, the national museum and the Gezira beach. Other cities are Berbera, Borama, Burco, Eyl, Hargeisa, Kismaayo and Marka. Sightseeing in Somalia include the town of Baidoa, the seaside resort Chismaio, national parks and the many mosques and forts.
