Sudan is a country in east Africa with 40 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Egypt, Libya, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo Kinshasa, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea. The republic has a coastline along the Red Sea in the northeast. The Sahara is located north. Just below lie the Sahel and the grassy steppes of the Sudan. Central are the hilly landscape Kurdufan and the plateau of Darfur. The Soedd swamp is located in the south surrounded by savanna areas. The rivers Nile, White Nile and Blue Nile flows through these areas and have fertile riverbanks. Along the Red Sea mountains are located. There is a desert climate in the north and a tropical climate in the south. Capital Khartoum has 2.2 million inhabitants. Sights include the national museum, the island of Tuti, the presidential palace, the Al Kabir mosque and the park Mogran. Other major cities are Al-Fashir, Juba, Khartoum North, Nyala, Omdurman, Port Sudan, Sawakin and Wau. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO, the sacred mountain Gebel Barkal and the areas of the region Napata. Other attractions are the Dinder National Park, flora and fauna in the south, the many pyramids, temples and tombs of the Nubian kingdom, the image of black pharaohs Taharqa, the ruins of Meroe, the Red Sea and the area around Jebel Marra mountain in Darfur.
