Cameroon is a country in west Africa with 18½ million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Nigeria, Chad, the Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The republic has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest. In the north there are vast savannas and Lake Chad. The areas with dense rainforests are located in the middle. Mountains and mountain plateaus lie to the west. The coastal plain is swampy and the coast consists of beautiful sandy beaches. There is a tropical climate. The capital Yaoundé has 1.7 million inhabitants. Sights are the museum of black art, the artistic center and the museum of art from Cameroon. Other important cities are the economic capital Douala, Bafoussam, Bamenda, Bertoua, Bokito, Buéa, Douala, Ebolowa, Garoua, Limbe, Maroua, Ngaoundéré and Yaoundé. The Dja game reserve is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Other places of interest include the many national parks, wildlife, the Memgame gorilla nature park, the waterfalls of Lobé and Menchum, the rock formations of Rhumsiki and Kapsiki, the palace Fon, Lake Mapé, the mountains and the pygmies.
