Ethiopia is a country in East Africa with 78 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia. The landscape of Ethiopia is largely determined by the Ethiopian highlands, divided by the Great Slenk. In the north lies the central massif of Abyssinia. The lowlands are located in the west. Furthermore, the plateau of Choa, rocks, savannas, the Danakil desert, steep massifs and deep valleys, table mountains and volcanoes, Lake Tana and the river Nile. There is a tropical monsoon climate. The capital Addis Ababa has 3 million inhabitants. Sights are the national museum, the mausoleum of Menelik II, the Selassie Cathedral, the church of Entoto, the St. George church, the Raphael church, the archaeological museum and the ethnological museum. Other important cities are Dire Dawa, Asayita, Bahir Dar, Asosa, Gambela, Harar, Adama or Nazret, Jijiga, Awasa and Mek'ele. The UNESCO World Heritage list includes the rock churches of Lalibela, the Simien National Park, Fasil Ghebbi in the Gondar region, the cities of Aksum Tiya and Harar and the valleys of the lower reaches of the Awash and the Omo.
