Guinea-Bissau is located on the west coast of Africa and has 1½ million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Senegal and Guinea. The republic has a coastline with the Atlantic Ocean. The coastal plain is very irregular with river mouths and river valleys. Central are tropical rain forests and savannah areas and southeastern many hills and mountains. There is a tropical humid savannah climate. The capital Bissau has 355,000 inhabitants. Sights are the artistic youth center, the Amura fortress and the mausoleum of Amílcar Cabral. Other cities are Bafatá, Quinhámel, Cacheu, Gabû, Farim and Catió. Other places of interest are the coastal town of Cacheu, the Bijagós Islands and the Cantanhez Nature Park.
