Ivory Coast is a country in west Africa with 18 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana. The republic a coastline with the Gulf of Guinea. Humid savannas determine the landscape in the north. Central are forest savannas, forests and more tropical rainforest. In the south there is an area with tropical rain forest and close to the coast there are lagoons. To the west lies the Nimba Mountains. There is a tropical climate. The capital Yamoussoukro has more than 200,000 inhabitants. Places of interest include the Basilique Notre Dame de la Paix and the palace of former President Felix Houphouët-Boigny. The largest city Abidjan has 2.8 million inhabitants. Other important cities include Man, San Pedro, Daloa, Korhogo and Bouaké. The UNESCO World Heritage Site includes Mount Nimba Nature Reserve and the National Parks of Taï and Comoé.
