Malawi is a country in Southern Africa with 14 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania. The most striking is the elongated Lake Malawi. This freshwater lake is located in the central African stream and has around 300 unique fish species. The banks are very swampy. The republic also consists of hills, mountains, high plains and lots of grasses and forests. There is a tropical climate. The capital city Lilongwe has 650,000 inhabitants. Attractions include the nature reserve along the Lingadzi River, the zoo and the old town. The tobacco auction is located just outside the city. Other cities are Blantyre, Monkey Bay, Mzimba, Mzuzu, Nkhata Bay, Rumphi and Zomba. The UNESCO World Heritage Site includes the Lake Malawi National Park and the rocky coast of Chongoni. Other places of interest are the eleven national parks and game reserves, Mount Mulanje, the flora and fauna.
