Nigeria is a country in western Africa with 140 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Benin, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. The Federal Republic has a southern coastline with the Gulf of Benin and the Gulf of Bonny (both part of the Gulf of Guinea). Nigeria has a varied landscape. In the north there are high plains and plateaus with grass steppes and savannas. To the east are mountain areas and hills. On the coast are the lagoons, river mouths, the Niger delta and mangrove forests. Hills and tropical rainforest are a bit more inland. There is a tropical climate. The capital Abuja has 500,000 inhabitants. Sights are Aso Rock and Zumo Rock and the Three Arms Zone: the parliament building, the supreme court and the presidential villa. Other cities are the former capital of Lagos, Benin City, Enugu, Gusau, Ibadan, Canoe, Owerri, Oyo, Port Harcourt, Warri and Calabar. The Unesco World Heritage Site lists the cultural landscape of Sukur and the sacred forest of Osun Osogbo. Other places of interest are the cities of Kaduna and Oshogbo, the beaches and national parks of Yankari, Cross River and Okomo.
