The Seychelles is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean with 82,000 inhabitants. The republic is located 600 kilometers east of Kenya and northeast of Madagascar. The country consists of 155 tropical islands and corals. Only the islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Dique are inhabited. The inner islands consist of forty granite islands and two elevated coral islands. The granite islands were created by volcanic activity. They are mountainous with forests, a unique flora and fauna and beautiful beaches. The outer islands consist of five groups of coral islands. The coral islands are flat with raised coral reefs and have no fresh water. There is a temperate climate. The capital Victoria is located on the island of Mahé and has 25,000 inhabitants. Sights are the wooden houses with shutters, the botanical gardens, the natural history museum, the Sir Selwyn-Clarke market, the national museum of history and the clock tower. The Aldabra Atoll and the Valléé de Mai Nature Reserve are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Other places of interest are the Coc de Mer palm tree, the giant turtles, the bird island of Cousin, the infamous pirate Olivier Levasseur, the nose frog from the Ghats mountains, the rain forests and the underwater world.
